Old Dale Mining District weekend trip late october

Post by JTFJ » Sat Sep 07, 2019 8:06 am

I would like to show you all some of the mines east of Twentynine Palms known as Old Dale mining district. There are many mines to see, most have old remnants, few can be gone in safely (but we can try). Ironage mine is a great big hole in the ground but is very impressive to see in person. Most of the trails are easy to moderate, plenty of harder trails if we all feel adventurous. We can do an over night or day trip, probably plan to stay out Saturday night and if you need to go back the pavement is not too far away.

We can meet up at Denny's in 29 palms. We would go another 15 miles or so east on hwy 62 to Ironage mine road then head south into the hills. From there we can continue into the Joshua Tree National Park and go down Berdo canyon to Indio or Thousand Palms, or come back out to hwy 62 close to where we started.

I hope we can all agree on a weekend in late october that will work.

I'm interested. Weekend of Oct 19th could be doable for me. Weekend of Oct 26 is out cause I'm going to be out of town till Friday for work. Weekend of Nov 2 could work.
I could probably camp one night or do a day trip. I would possibly be taking my wife and son, or just my son.

Nov 2nd will most likely be the Laughlin trip.

I might be able to do a weekend in late Oct.

Definitely interested doing this trip with my daughters and camping the night, but I cannot confirm our weekend availability at this time.

I would be interested for sometime in October. I was out there years ago to the supply mine and the Ivanhoe mine. It would be a day trip for me though. I will keep an eye on this thread :)

I think we could also use this trip as an excuse to bring out some guns and do a little shooting.

Weekend of Oct 19 looks good, should be good weather. I'm sure we can find a place to shoot some rounds out there before we cross the National Park boundary. :violence-pistoldouble: :violence-rambo: :angry-screaming: :violence-bomb:

I wanted to check to see if we are still going out october 19th? Is anybody else planning to attend? It can be a day trip or overnight. There are plenty of easy trails and some harder ones if we feel the need. The weather out here is awesome right now!

I am wanting to do some pre running of the trail (last time there was a washout that was 3ft deep to go through, see vid from last year). Is there anybody that would have time off to take a day to go out? Or we just deal with the trail as we go?

Again, destination is Iron Age mine in the Old Dale Mining District east of 29 Palms. Lots of vids on the area. From there we can go south into the National Park down Geology Tour Road and Berdo Canyon to the I-10 so you all can get home easily. OR we can explore a place in 29 Palms called Music Valley or Gold Park, a nice pleasant drive into the wilderness used by gold miners from long ago.

The 19th will be a no go for me. I have to work that Saturday.
