How to upload the perfect avatar.

Post by Irving Zisman » Thu Mar 21, 2019 6:36 am

This is a how to on uploading an avatar.

The forum is currently set at 100x100 pixels max for an avatar, which I feel is about the right size. Now, you can have a smaller avatar (20x20 minimum) but that might not look right.

So, the first step is to find a pic that you want to use. We will use my new avatar as an example.
Once you have your pic chosen, open MS Paint, and either drag and drop the photo, or click "File, Open" and choose the pic.

We need to resize the pic if it is bigger than 100x100 or smaller than 20x20. To do this, click on "Resize"

Select "Pixels". You will be able to see the native size of the pic afterward. Notice this example the pic is 256x256.

We need this to be 100x100, so edit the Horizontal and Vertical values. If the photo is perfectly square, as it is in this example, then you can leave "Maintain aspect ratio" checked and it will change the Vertical value automatically when you edit the Horizontal.

Click ok and you will see the photo resize.

Now save the resized pic.

Return to the forum and enter your User Control Panel.

Click on the "Profile" tab, then "Edit avatar"

Make sure that "Avatar type" is set to Upload avatar, then click "Choose File" and browse to your new resized pic and click submit.

Thats all there is to it!

Keep in mind that if your pic is not a perfect square, you will have to play with the resize settings in Paint to make it look right.
